COMPOSER

Having realised that the piano was his voice at around the age of eleven, Joseph began to write for the first time in an effort to emulate the music he loved so much to play. His first venture into this was with arranging, but he soon began to write his own small-scale pieces too, mostly for solo piano. After his first attempt at orchestrating one of his piano works, he was hooked at the idea of creating, rather than only playing others' music.

Since then, he's flourished into a versatile composer, arranger, orchestrator and transcriber in both classical and jazz harmony – his music takes great influence from Romantic and 20th Century (including film) music, as well as operatic musical theatre. His idols include Ravel, Scriabin, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Sondheim, to name only a few!

Joseph's individualistic idiom relies on extended harmony, ambiguous rhythms intricate motivic structures, devices which he extends to every genre he writes in, from contemporary solo, chamber and orchestral works, to jazz combos and big band, to especially film music.
